Final destination: Curtin University

This is the day I check out the place I will be attending for the next 2 ¼ years. I take a taxi to the University and apparently the school is not in Perth, it’s actually 10-15 minutes outside “the city”. We drive onto the campus and it’s huge. First I go to the residence to drop off my luggage and get settled in. The place is alright. It’s not the prettiest place but it’s decent. I didn’t bother trying to unpack.
Since it’s already Friday I have a lot of stuff to do before I begin class on Monday. I feel like I’m in first year again waiting in line after line. Why are there so many people waiting in the same lines as me? They don’t begin classes for another 3 weeks.

I walked all around campus and it’s the most amazing campus I have ever seen. There’s so many open space to just chill’ax, very cool…So it took me a very long time to find the international building because I kept walking the wrong way, even with a map in hand and signs all over the place. One thing that I’ve noticed so far is how laid back people really are here. People take their sweet little time doing everything so the service for everything is quite slow. I went to the bank and you apparently wait for them to call your number. The place was packed with people waiting to be serviced but still there was only one person actually doing anything.

Also, people don’t seem to work after 4:30pm. I went back on campus at 5pm and everything was closed, even food places and the campus was suddenly deserted. I wonder what people do here after 5pm?? Maybe they all head over to the beach??

That evening I went to King’s Park with some people that I met through the RA. King’s park is just a park but it’s got a great view of the entire city. You can see the Swan River, which is literally in the shape of a swan.
