Steve Irwin

Earlier this week we had just fininshed eating lunch and everyone was staggering in for another lecture. People were already beginning to relay the unfortunate news during the break someone stood in front of class to make the "official" announcement. The extremely loved and generous Steve Irwin aka The Crocodile Hunter was killed by a stingray while diving. Apparently this was somewhat of a freak accident as only 3 reported people were ever killed by a stingray. He was struck in the chest while filming a documentary. My new housemate told me that she use to swim with stingrays and they seemed so harmless.

As with most North Americans I don't know much about Steve Irwin, other than his reputation as the Australian Crocodile Hunter, but he basically put Australia on the map. Before I left for Australia everyone made reference to Steve Irwin and asked me if I would meet him. People don't know anything about this country other than The Crocodile Hunter. From what I hear he was an extremely generous person and gave a lot to charity. He also has two very young children, both under the age of 10. Some what I hear his children is already taking over some of his passion.

Here's to the Crocodile Hunter and thank you for sharing your passion of crocodiles with the world.
