Sick computer

My poor computer acquired an illness that can only be treated with surgery. Unfortunately the procedure can only be done in Canada, unless if I can find a specialist here. The referring doctor is away on holidays until Monday so keep your fingers crossed folks.

For two weeks now my computer has been extremely sensitive to movement. Any physical movements to the computer causes it to freezes and then I am forced to restart it. It can't be a good thing if I have to constantly restart it. It's no longer a laptop but more like a desktop now. Since my desk is, as usual, full of junk and random stuff, I now place my laptop on top of my pillow. It kinda acts like a shock absorber and dissipates most movements. It works but such a hassle that I can no longer move my laptop around the house like I use to. I've definitely has become more anti-social around the house because I HAVE to be on my computer when I'm home.

I contacted the Fujitsu support people and they think there's probably something wrong with the switch or something. They said that because I am out of warrenty I have to bring it back to Canada in order to get it fixed. I got a contact for Perth but they are just a distributor so we'll see on Monday if they can help my poor, sick computer. If not, then it'll have to wait and be a desktop counterfeit.

Earthdance festival

We went down to Pinjarra last weekend, which is about an hour south of Perth, to the Earthdance music festival. It's suppose to promote peace on earth but I was there more for the music. It was pretty cool. It was mainly outdoors in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. The musicians were all local WA singers who are somewhat making a name for themselves in the underground music industry. I've already had CDs of a few of singers that were performing so it was good hearing them live. Since I've been here, I'm appreciating more and more the local talents and broadening up my taste in music. It's almost more impressive watching a local singer create such amazing sounds with the bare minimum than going to watch a whole production with fancy expensive technology.

Becks and I also had the opportunity to learn how to play the African drums. It was fun. I've always wanted to try playing the African drums. Here's a pic of Becks getting ready to play some beats for everyone.

Birthday

Firstly, Happy 25th Birthday Edmond. I hope you had a great day and an even better year.

If you asked me a few years ago or even a year ago I would've told you that turning 25 would be scary and depressing. Now that it has happened, I am quite excited about this year. This year has the potential to be one of the best. I'll be done the Physiotherapist course and will be back home in Canada within the year. I can't think of anything better.

It has been a pretty good day. I signed onto msn and a wonderful surprise awaited me. The Kin girls (which JL is unofficially part of) were all together and they sang Happy Birthday to me. It was really great catching up and seeing them all together. It’s very seldom that I see them all together. It almost felt like we were all back in 'loo. Too bad we didn’t have a webcam so that they could see us too. That definitely made my day or probably my week. Even if I didn't do anything else for the rest of the day, that would've been enough. I've been feeling quite depressed lately but talking to them have lighted the spirit back in me.

Lizard then came over to present me with this amazing Ladybug cake that she made for me. No one has ever put that much effort to bake me a cake like that before. If that wasn't enough, Sach came over and also baked a cake for me. Those were pretty damn impressive looking cakes.

Afterwards getting enough cake in our system to last a month, we went rock climbing and then dinner afterwards. All in all it was a great day spending it with only a few people, with the people that are most important to me here. It was much better than throwing a large party like I did last year. Thanks everyone for the instant messages, emails, phone texts, and spending the day with me.

My Mini Time Capsule

On the eve of my birthday I would like to announce my project. I'm turning a quarter of a century this year and it's a big year. It's funny about birthdays because people naturally look towards the future. Instead of envisioning the excitement of turning 25, I'm trying to envision where I'll be in five years when I turn the massive 3-0. I can't even grasp being that age at the moment. It's a scary thought.

My project is to ask people where they see themselves in five years. It was a common question back in high school but I actually want all of YOU to either post your response on my blogger or email me. In five years time, on the day I turn 30, I will email everyone their individual response, word for word. It's my version of a mini time capsule. Please help me fulfill my birthday project. It'll be interesting and it only takes a minute or two to do.

Allow me to start...In fives years I'll have been working as a Physiotherapist for a few years and either working in my own private practice or will be within the year. The private practice, co-created with SS, will be multi-disciplinary health rehab centre. We will offer services in Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, open a fitness centre to connect rehab and physical fitness, and conduct Ergonomic consultations on the side. The decor of the office will be filled with photos that I have taken myself. They will all be for sale where most, if not all, proceeds going towards Breast Cancer. My this time SS and I will have successfully convinced Becks to move to Ontario and be part of our health rehab centre.

Personal life: I hope to be married by then and have plans for children, if not already in the process. Hopefully living in a house, either in Toronto or Waterloo. In terms of travel I hope to have gone to Europe at least once with my mom. I know that's a place she's always wanted to go to but have never been. Of course, I will have been a dedicated Blue Jays season ticket holder. Of course I'll still be playing softball and coaching a junior team.

It would also be great experience if I could either work in Nunavut to truly experience and learn the Inuit culture or go to a third world country to experience first hand what their health care system is like over there. These last two items are things that I have always wanted to do, even before I ever decided to be a Physio. They are more part of my life 'to-do' checklist but accomplishing one of them within five years would be great. Oh and I want to have worked for Variety Village, even for a short period or even volunteering, because it's been my dream job since we went there on a high school field trip.

There you have it folks, those are just a short list of things that I want to accomplish in the next five years.

YOUR TURN!!! Yes I'm looking at you...

Steve Irwin

Earlier this week we had just fininshed eating lunch and everyone was staggering in for another lecture. People were already beginning to relay the unfortunate news during the break someone stood in front of class to make the "official" announcement. The extremely loved and generous Steve Irwin aka The Crocodile Hunter was killed by a stingray while diving. Apparently this was somewhat of a freak accident as only 3 reported people were ever killed by a stingray. He was struck in the chest while filming a documentary. My new housemate told me that she use to swim with stingrays and they seemed so harmless.

As with most North Americans I don't know much about Steve Irwin, other than his reputation as the Australian Crocodile Hunter, but he basically put Australia on the map. Before I left for Australia everyone made reference to Steve Irwin and asked me if I would meet him. People don't know anything about this country other than The Crocodile Hunter. From what I hear he was an extremely generous person and gave a lot to charity. He also has two very young children, both under the age of 10. Some what I hear his children is already taking over some of his passion.

Here's to the Crocodile Hunter and thank you for sharing your passion of crocodiles with the world.
